Not a loyal fan?
Have you ever thought of yourself as a not loyal fan for unstanning the group that once became the center of your fangirling/fanboying life? Have you ever felt guilty about leaving the fandom? Or have you been blamed or judged— telling you are not a true fan—by your fellow fangirl/fanboy friends for departing? As a fan, I am certain that at some point in your fangirling/fanboying life, you have experienced one or all of these.
Leaving a fandom isn't as easy as ABC, they say. But why are there fans leaving? Why did you leave? Let's set off to the moment before you left and imagine how or why you came to this point—departure.
So Sick
Kpop idols have been bombed with loads of issues, hullabaloos and all that sort of negativity in this industry leading to fan wars, heartrending and off-putting news and worst of all, disbandment or members leaving the group. As a buff that you are, you can't help but be affected whenever you read such getting-on-your-nerves news and of course you'd want to shield your fave group from all the rumors being thrown to them. And this may be the reason why you left. You’re sick. You might be sick and tired of all these endless issues, of being hurt and came into an unexpected decision.
New-found love
Remember when you were wandering on Youtube and found a fancam of this ethereal-looking idol? Or remember when your friend introduced you to some 7-member group she likes? Later on, you find yourself getting interested and researching more about them. This is the most common reason why a fan like you leaves a fandom. You've found a new eye candy whilst little by little, you are unknowingly losing feels for the group you've laid your eyes upon first. Well, not your fault for being more entertained and pleased with your new-found group that you could only focus on them.
Or...maybe you started liking animes, tv series, or boy bands outside South Korea and such and you can just say, "Bye-bye Kpop!"
Surprisingly gone
One day, you're watching one of your fave groups' videos and out of the blue, you just felt that the enthusiasm isn't there anymore. Your feels were surprisingly gone. You are not sure how and when, but it just happened. You are simply or obliviously not interested anymore.
As a fan of Kpop for several years, I can definitely relate to this. It's alright even if you didn't stay as their fan til the end. Those memories and happiness they have shared to you will be cherished forever. I just want to say that you guys should not feel bad about it. It's pretty normal. Ignore what other fans think about you. After all, it's your decision—your feels. You can't press yourself to the group that you don't like anymore. Rather, find yourself and figure out which group—or should I say groups?—you truly love. You will feel it along the way; The group or fandom that would make you happy, feel comfortable and at home. I'm happy to say that after years of hopping from one group to the other, I've found mine at last. How about you?
